Wicca, Witchcraft and Satanism

What Would Halloween Be Without Witches?

Out of curiosity, I Googled the most popular Halloween costumes of 2012 and 2013. When I was a youngster half a century ago, we were limited by what was offered at our local Walmart. This offering was usually a skeleton, Casper the friendly ghost, a vampire, Big Bird and a witch. I usually chose the vampire and all the kids of the neighborhood would collect candy and homemade treats as we went door to door. That was a time of fond memories and fun before my parents split and the christian church consumed my mother; ensuring nothing remotely resembling ‘evil’ or ‘blasphemy’ was allowed ever again……including Halloween.

During my search, I was surprised to find Witch costumes were sorely absent. Replacing the witch was Miley Cyrus (the complete Twerking Kit ?!?!??), Kim KardashianDuck Dynasty (could also be used for a ZZ Top costume) and characters from Breaking Bad (yes, I have lived in a cave and have not watched the much-aclaimed Breaking Bad series 🙂 ). Where was the Witch? I found what one website called “The Witch” but I do not remember witches looking like $10.00 / trick Streetwalkers! I guess times change.

Witches and Satanism

Without Witches, Satanism would wither and die as a theology. The truth is, Witches keep the Satanic lifeblood flowing and that, keeps Satanism alive. As I have said before in earlier blog posts, most Satanists consider themselves “witches” and practitioners of magic first; then labeled “Satanists“. Even “A Satanic Coven of Witches” sounds better than “A Satanic Coven of Satanists“; am I right?Leave Something Witchy

Those witches who do not practice Satanic Rituals may often reference “white magic” or “good magic“, which sometimes confuses those new to the Occult Arts. Satanism is sometimes viewed as purely evil and may be shunned by those witches who wish to create a clear line of demarkation. While some witches dabble in what they call the white light, others find the darkness a more suitable and comfortable environ to open the magical flow of energy. Witchcraft and Satanism should be comfortable for the practitioner and in most cases, adaptation is a necessity that enables effective rituals and magical operations. No one can build a successful practice of magic upon principles he / she does not truly believe. What would be the point?

Not All Witches Shave Their Legs

The term Warlock is used for a male witch however, it is not imperative to accept Warlock as their assigned label. The name Witch is just fine for a male, if so desired. After all, it is only a ‘classification’ that may not sum up the person at all. Witch is only one of many synonyms of warlock. Others include astrologer, clairvoyant, magician, fortune-teller, necromancer, occultist, thaumaturge…………well, you get the point. If a male wishes to use “Witch“, no problem. The first step in destroying something wonderful is to “make everyone conform“…………..from there, failure follows. All theologies should allow a modicum of latitude for those seeking comfort and acceptance.

Wicca, Witchcraft and Satanism

I respect the beliefs of others and while I may have an opinion on those beliefs, I acknowledge diversity and strongly encourage everyone to find what works for them. In the past, I have received scathing emails from some “White Magic Witches” condemning Satanism and generally calling me a “Sexist Prick” (or perhaps it was a Prickly Sexist; I’ll check to be sure…..) just because I love women and routinely use female nude pictures on my blog.

What astounded me more was one of the “good witches” threatened to throw a curse and make me pay for corrupting Wiccan Magic. This was several months ago and I have not experienced anything unusual, unless she cursed me to grow old; if so, she put a good one on me cause some mornings I feel VERY OLD!!! At least it was not ‘ceaseless crotch itch‘ or the dreaded ‘always the last square of toilet tissue curse‘. Damn, I have revealed the chink in my armor. I digress.

Sixty percent (60%) of our coven’s members came from the Wicca way of life. As one member describes it “Wicca was a primer for Satanism, which took my magic to a whole new level“. To these individuals, Satanism was the next logical progression in their path to enlightenment. We are all searchers and we continue to search until we find something that ‘works’.

For all the Witches reading this, I urge you to pursue that which makes you happy and never settle for something that does not make you feel 100% satisfied. If more people were honest with themselves, the world would certainly be a better place.

Beltane/Walpurgis Night

A wonderful blog post from Cassie…..

Devil's Advocates

I have been celebrating Beltane ever since I became a witch in my late teens. It has become an important landmark in the cycle of the year for me. Each Beltane is a bit different, some I have celebrated alone, some I have celebrated with others, some felt very spiritual and some were more raucous than others. This will be the first time I have celebrated with my Satanic coven and for them the festival is better known as Walpurgis Night. Will that; should that make any difference to the feel and type of ritual and celebrations?

For me Beltane always gave me a sense of getting in touch with my pagan soul. It was a celebration of life, of fertility, of being a hot blooded woman, of being part of nature, of being in tune with the seasons, of being a witch; and I suppose, of not being…

Stevie Nicks – The Haunting Chanting “Gold Dust Woman”

I have been a fan of Stephanie Lynn “Stevie” Nicks; simply known as Stevie Nicks to the world. She has graced the stage with legendary band Fleetwood Mac for decades.
Stevie has denied involvement in witchcraft and satanic magic however her ending of the song Gold Dust Woman is a lovely and haunting chant of mystic tones.

“Hail shadow of the dragon….” is heard while a subtle line “Hail shadow of the demon” can be heard in a wonderful abstract tone that is haunting and beautiful.
Whether she is or is not involved in the ways of magic is superfluous at best. I simply love her expressionism and of course love her as an artist.

Malleus Maleficarum / Witchcraft / Email Spells

Malleus Maleficarum

Few books in the world are as unsettling for followers of witchcraft as the Malleus Maleficarum. For those who are unfamiliar with the book, it is a “hard book to get through“; especially because it is based upon fact and actual events of such cruel magnitude, it makes others pale in comparison. It is like reading a vicious Sadist’s diary complete with tips on how to inflict maximum bone crushing pain upon the victim.

OK, so it does not go that far however, it does explain how to extract confessions from witches and how to maneuver the “law” to convict the accused witch of satanic pacts, devilish deeds, cannibalism, Infanticide and casting evil spells to harm their enemies. While the book has been retired to the hallowed halls of libraries and digital repositories, just the idea that the work was taken seriously in the 1500s, is cause to reflect upon the fact that countless women were tortured and killed according to the direction the book gave. It is almost incomprehensible………even today.

So quickly can a society spiral out of control and become so obsessed with controlling that which is misunderstood. It also seems that every page is written in the blood of some poor soul that begged for death to ease their pain. The images bombard the reader’s mind; the breaking of bones, the ripping of flesh, the injuries that can never heal and the body that will never be the same even if the life is spared. This is what happens when a religion becomes so big, imposing and bullish. Humans are always quick to follow the leader that raves as a lunatic from the pulpits across the globe. So meaningless do trivial things like “human rights” become when distorted by a delusional madman screaming in the name of GOD. How devalued the lives of rational, reasonable and intelligent people become once the “holy chosen people of God” set their sights on silencing any opposition to THEIR GOD.

Christianity, Judaism and Islam have all been guilty of imposing their will upon others; to the point of death. In a world where civil liberties hang by a string, these groups chisel away at the rights of those who even question their religions. Even the idea of asking questions is seen by these groups as “blasphemy” and in many cases, subject to immediate torture and death.

Witchcraft

While on the subject of Witchcraft, I have recently received several emails asking my thoughts on the association between Satanism and Witchcraft. I realize there are those who try to lump the two together in one nice package but there are not only subtle differences but they are quite different.

While members of a Satanic coven are often referred to as Witches, they are actually Satanists however, the magical operations practiced by both are similar. Anton LaVey made no differentiation between white and black magic with this statement from The Satanic Bible:

“There is no difference between “white” and “black” magic, except in the smug hypocrisy, guilt-ridden righteousness and self-deceit of the “white” magician himself.”

As I have said before, I am not a LaVeyan Satanist however, I do appreciate Anton’s viewpoint on this subject and I agree with him. The same Satanic forces “black magic” we use during rituals is the same magic the witches I am acquainted with use in their workings “white magic“. I have had many discussion with these witches (who I call friends) and they also agree with Anton’s opinion on the matter.

Email Spells

I am often asked to write special Satanic “spells” that can be used to fulfill the desires of the follower. Everything from increasing wealth to attracting a lover; if it can be imagined, a magical spell is requested. Many of the ones emailing me the request are so far removed from the reality of magic, they simply believe a few words spoken and a candle will give them what they desire. I guess I could send these folks some spooky poetry but I prefer to attempt to educate these misguided seekers.

Magic is not a simple thing. Would you email a surgeon for “open heart surgery directions“? Magic is not surgery but the magical operation can either achieve the desired results or go terribly wrong and without proper education, the practitioner is playing Russian Roulette. Simply reading a spell from a sheet of paper will never render the desired results. There are no magical shortcuts nor are there any effective “off the shelf” spells. If someone claims to sell you a spell, save your money……….it does not work.

Until next time,
